Notes:
Coach Cade will run this as kids show up. After this 90sec meeting to intro coaches and set tone: IF kids do not focus and give their best at practice, they will be excused to WATCH practice on the side with parents.
PRACTICE STARTS AT 4:00 (BELOW BLACK)
Offered during the Olympics practice, the baserunning station involves up to five sprints for each athlete. Armed with a stopwatch and a score sheet...Read More
Notes:
With a small tweak. Two groups, 1 at home, 1 at 2nd. Next runner doesn't leave until his teammate touches the second bag. First group done, wins.
Hula Hoop Throwing is a drill designed to work on basic throwing mechanics. Highlights include stepping with the opposite foot and utilizing a proper...Read More
Notes:
Start with slow walk through. Right foot forward (turned with "ankle eye" toward fence), left foot foward - with arms/WINGS UP, shuffle, throw! End with competition one time through.
Ground Ball Put Outs brings into play the novel concept of recording OUTS! At some point, athletes need to be taught how to execute force plays and tag...Read More
Notes:
Possibly with a tweak. Possible tag v. force pop quiz (for fun, it's ok if they get it wrong, just about exposure). Rolling instead of hitting ground balls, make sure fielders catch it. First five minutes no runners (or maybe coach runners?). Last five minutes possibly with runners.
WATER BREAK (5min)
Stations (Groups rotate halfway through block)
Live BP
4:40-4:48 8 Minutes
5 groups of 2? 6min each. 3 rounds of 3-5 pitches? Alisha feeding. One coach at home plate. I'll start it. And circle back around.
Fundamentals: Fly Balls
4:48-4:56 8 Minutes
One coach just beyond 2nd base with a couple baseballs, doing fly balls in between pitches. Objective: get them to relax, SEE/WATCH the ball (like TV), MOVE to the ball and get as close to it as possible with glove in the right position (fingers up if ball is above the belt, fingers down if ball is below the belt). IF THEY CATCH IT: BONUS! Challenge and encourage each player accordingly.
Fundamentals: Ground Balls
4:56-5:04 8 Minutes
One coach just past mound, rolling ground balls in between; either throw back to coach or to 1B. If to 1B, make sure 1 coach is in front of the 1st baseman as a screen to protect from live bp balls. GB overview - Ready Pos / Approach / Field Triangle / Exit Footwork (followed by reps)
Fundamentals: Hitting
5:04-5:12 8 Minutes
Tee station. 0. 1. 2. 3. Swing hard as you can without falling over.
WATER BREAK (5min)
Home-to-First coaches the correct way to run through the first base bag. As part of Baserunning or Conditioning, this drill can be run near the end...Read More
Notes:
If they haven't been focused and doing their best, we'll finish with running. Maybe a race/competition at the end.
A fun Hitting Station or Early Activity Drill, Home Run Derby brings out coach's inner Chris Berman - back, back, back, back... GONE! Designed to be...Read More
Notes:
If they've been focused and doing their best, and there's time, we'll do this: FASTEST HR DERBY EVER - 2 OUTS EACH. PICK A FENCE. IF IT DOESN'T GO OVER, IT'S AN OUT. DO OR DIE. MOST HR WINS.
