Catch & Throw Left – Simple catch play. Compete for # of clean throws in a row or in a certain amount of time. Catch & Throw Right – Involve the reverse pivot footwork to turn the “wrong way” and deliver the throw. Ground Balls – Field, separate, shuffle… then roll a ground ball to the next cone. Underhand Flip / Left – Stiff wrist, leave it high, toss a knuckleball. Underhand Flip / Right – Crossover with left foot to begin. Reverse Pivot / Right – Start from fielding triangle position. Backhand Flip – Throw the ‘C’, thumb under baseball. GB / Flip / GB / Flip – Left vs Across – Mix up the drill and create more realistic reps. Mix it up
Mound Progression

Straddle – Back foot stands directly behind the pitching rubber, and the front foot is extended towards catcher (wide stance). Step On – Back foot moves from behind, to in-front-of, the pitching rubber. Look In – Get sign from catcher. Come Set – Front foot steps back to a position closer to back foot (feet under armpits), and hands come together in front of the chest simultaneously.

Baserunners – Steal sign is on! Work on getting good jumps and reading the pitcher. Stay wide of, and run past, the second base bag. First-Basemen – Hold runner and communicate the steal attempt: RUNNER!!!! Second-Basemen – Take throw on right-handed batters and back up the play with a left-handed hitter. Communicate with open-mouth or closed-mouth. Shortstops – Back up the play with a right-handed batter and take throw with a left-handed hitter. Communicate with open-mouth or closed-mouth. Pitchers – Throw strikes!! (Are pick-offs appropriate?!? Definitely not until all have had enough repetitions taking throws and working leads/breaks). Catchers – Throw down to second base. Coach – Stand in the batter’s box and switch frequently between a left-handed hitter and a right-handed hitter.
